Becoming Artists Classes are Coming to The River!
Becoming Artists Classes are Coming to The River!
We are so glad to have Lauren coming to The River to nurture artists here. She has a background in education and a love for inspiring creativity in kids- read on to meet Lauren and learn about her plans for classes!
My name is Lauren Nelson! I’m a mom of 3 girls. 👩🏽👧🏼👶🏻 I’m a certified EC-6 teacher ( taught kinder and first), I own a shop where I sell/create art and I have my Bachelors of Science!!
My goal for my summer camps is for my students to know that they CAN and ARE artists! Creating what you feel and how you feel it, is amazing and something to be so proud of! I want to grow each of my students strengths and build their confidence in their art adventures!
I believe art is a place to express yourself and have FUN!!!!
🎨 Younger kids: classes will start with story time and then art to go with it! Art will be sensory based and developmentally appropriate for this age! I incorporate counting, colors etc. We will be using LOTS of imagination and making a mess 😉 we will use unconventional tools (sponges, cars, tongs, etc). * students must be fully potty trained *
🎨 Older kids: class will be more skills based. We will work on creating art pieces with different mediums ( often acrylic ) based on the kids and their interests!
STEM will include different activities with making hypotheses and testing theories. we will look at topics like constellations, plants, baking soda/ vinegar and so much more!!

Lauren Knowles
Lauren Knowles
Owner and Creative Director
Lauren's love for dancing began in a Mommy and Me class at the age of 2 and was fostered over the years by many wonderful teachers and experiences. Music and theatre were loved and encouraged in her family and from grade school to college she was involved in various productions. Lauren chose to pursue dance as a career and studied dance education, theatre, and psychology at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. She graduated with a B.A. degree in Dance Education for grades K to 12 and Psychology Education for grades 7 to 12. It was here that she received the tremendous gift of dancing and working with the Sacred Dance group under the love and leadership of Maxine DeBruyn which greatly shaped her views on the intersection of faith and art. Following her graduation, Lauren moved to Midland, Texas to teach dance at Art and Soul. She stayed there and eventually directed for 6 wonderful years until moving to Ohio for her husband’s new job. In 2018, Lauren and her family returned to Midland, this time for her husband to step in as the director of Christmas in Action. Believing that art is not only a wonderful tool to develop children mentally, socially, and emotionally, but also a vehicle for ministry and spiritual growth, Lauren is excited and grateful to have the opportunity to be teaching and mentoring students again.
